The Fletcher Challenge retirees’ and former employees’ clubs began during the 1980s and continue to exist due to the affection and loyalty that past employees retain for the company. They provide opportunities to maintain the network of friendships forged during the years worked with Fletcher Challenge.

The closing of the Fletcher Challenge corporate office in 2001 and the divestment of the divisions fundamentally changed the relationship previously enjoyed by the company and the retirees’ clubs. Since that time, the individual clubs have become ’stand alone’ and continue to exist on the basis of local interest and the enthusiasm of former employees.

The Fletcher Trust has supported this transition and continuance with grants to each of the clubs in Auckland, Kawerau, Rotorua-Taupo, Central Districts, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill. Unfortunately, the Tauranga Club closed in 2016. The remaining eight clubs continue to provide fellowship and are encouraging and welcoming of new members.
